Since I can't get this Forum to let me make a new post, I will add this a Quick Reply:
Problem with flaky Trigkey USB flash drives SOLVED.
I have a Trigkey Ryzen 7 5800H with Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (started with 23H2). I was having difficulty with some USB flash (stick) drives. Some of the USB flash drives would start and stop, then start again, and stop … on and on, making them unusable.
The USB flash drives, which included inexpensive and pricey drives, worked perfectly on 4 other Intel computers I own. I did not have any problems with USB external hard drives on the AMD Trigkey, only with some USB flash drives.
SEVERAL DAYS JOURNEY TO THE SOLUTION!
After looking at the Trigkey website and getting no help, I checked Google, Edge, YouTube, and Copilot AI.
Copilot said that there were reports of Trigkey USB problems and made several suggestions.
- Update BIOS and chipset drives then change PCIe mode from Gen4/Auto to Gen3. However, I was not able to successfully download any BIOS or drivers from Trigkey and kept getting diverted from Trigkey to expensive download services. AMD said to download Trigkey drivers. Could not complete this step.
- Go to Device Manager, USB controllers and ports, and uncheck “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”. I did this, but the problem remained.
The solution involved changing the USB settings in the BIOS, restarting, testing, then changing something else. The combination that worked is shown below.
BIOS ADVANCED tab (settings that worked)
USB module version 26
USB controllers: 2 XHCIs
USB Devices: 1 Keyboard, 1 Mouse
Legacy USB Support [Auto]
XHCI Hand-off [Disabled]
USB Mass Storage Driver Support [Disabled]
USB hardware delays and time-outs:
USB transfer time-out [20 sec]
Device reset time-out [20 sec]
Device power-up delay [Auto]
Note: I would recommend making a change in the BIOS - BOOT tab,
change Setup Prompt Timeout to 7 (not the default 1)
to allow more time to press the delete key to get into the BIOS on Startup.
